Meet Tracie – Pre-Loved Chocolate Labrador Retriever dog For Adoption by Owner in Valrico FL

Tracie is a Female Chocolate Labrador Retriever dog for adoption to a very loving home in or near Valrico, FL. This very special dog is 2 old and weighs 85. Tracie is in good health and has been spayed, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and housebroken.

Tracy is looking for a special home where there are no children or other pets. She is a beautiful, sweet and loving dog with a difficult past, having come from an Amish puppy mill in Pennsylvania where she was not socialized at all, and was likely subjected to some level of physical abuse, and certainly neglect.

Tracie’s owner was not aware of the prevalence of these puppy mills, and purchased her after seeing her nailed into a wooden crate by the barn on the farm where she was born. It is likely that Tracie’s Momma was fearful of people, and unsocialized. (These dogs live their lives in wire crates, with no human contact or kindness).

As Tracie matured, it became clear that she was very fearful of many things that well socialized puppies take in stride: household noises, human voices, other dogs, and many other things. She has since been on a path towards learning to accept the things she is fearful of, but it takes time and patience.

Her current home has another dog and children, putting Tracie constantly in a state of anxiety.  In an only pet, no kids home with a strong routine and in a quiet area, Tracie should be able to get past many of her triggers.

Ideally, a country home where her anxiety and fear can be worked on and where she will be loved unconditionally. This sweet girl deserves a happy home. Her owner is willing to deliver Tracie within a wide reach of her current location, providing that it is the right setting for her.

Behavior Issues: Yes Behavior concerns:

•general anxiety
•stranger fear-aggression – human and canine

•food aggression

Tracie presents as an anxious dog with a short fuse. Common triggers at the beginning of treatment were random sounds like the ice maker or telephone ringing, people talking, seeing/hearing other dogs, dogs around during feeding time even if not directly nearby, and sometimes no trigger was identified at the time of reaction but it could be something we don’t hear.

Per history provided, Tracie was anxious pup. Her symptoms are typical of a dog with genetically driven anxiety and insufficient / improper socialization. Cases such as this have good outlooks despite limited circles of friendship. I recommend continuing medication and potentially looking at a med change.

During treatment, Tracie has been successfully desensitized to the sound of strangers and other dogs in the environment here, however her food aggression has made little improvement and will require ongoing management and treatment.

Her behavior around our other dog, Frank, has vastly improved with the exception of feeding time. I believe they can coexist in small doses but I think Tracie would thrive best as the only dog.

Ongoing treatment includes counter conditioning and desensitization (see: careforreactivedogs.com), management in the form of a safe space when guests come over, and the use of a muzzle if Tracie will be in close quarters with new people or dogs until she accepts them.

Instruct people to not pet Tracie over the head and to ignore her. Our goal at this time is the teach her that people will not invade her space. Do not allow dogs to rush up on her.

Tracie is capable of communicating effectively without issues,. so long as those in her environment are aware of her body language and those in charge are proactive in their management and training, Tracie should be able to live a much less stressed life.

Tracie’s Personality

Tracie is an outdoorsy girl who loves to be with her person. She enjoys swimming, hiking and going on long runs.

Trace is very smart. She loves watching squirrels on the TV and in real life.

We call her the collector because she loves to take her toys and shoes and hoard them in a pile. Until of course, you come home and she greets you with them.

Trace is also very scared easily and likes to be around gentle people.

Tracie’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Trace loves pumpkin puree, bully sticks, running, hiking as well as her duck and other toys.

Cute Tracie Story:

One time, Trace came to the door not only with a shoe, but three! She kept dropping them to greet us and ended up taking an extra minute to finally to make it to the door.

Why is Tracie Being Rehomed?

Trace is a great dog and it is deeply sad to me that I need to re-home her. At this time, I am not able to give her what she needs; open space and a no child home.

Tracie’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

I am looking for a patient, kind and soft spoken family with no kids. I would love from them to live in the country or like being outside. Someone who understands her behaviors – not to be aggressive, but as fear, and is willing to work with her. I would love to stay in contact.
