Basenji is a non shedding hypoallergenic small dog breed from africa

Basenjis For Adoption Near You

The Basenji was brought to Europe from Africa in 1934. Basenjis are small, with a smooth shiny coat in a variety of shades. The breed has a distinctive, horse-like running gait and does not bark, but does have a lot of other unusual vocalizations.

Basenjis love to play and make good pets, but should be handled regularly from an early age. They are very intelligent and respond well to training.

Basenjis are good with children, but should not be left alone with cats or other non-canine animals. The Basenji washes itself like a cat and has no doggie smell, so very little grooming is needed. This breed sheds very little – a great choice for allergy-sufferers!

When considering the purchase of a Basenji for your family, it is extremely important to carefully research the breed to ensure that it is the right choice for you. Basenjis are very special dogs with special requirements for care.

It is also very important to choose a responsible, knowledgeable breeder, as Basenjis are prone to hereditary disorders including Fanconi disease, Retinal Atrophy and Hip Dysplasia. Careful screening for these disorders is very important in the choice of a puppy.

Soft coated wheaten terrier a medium hypoallergenic non shedding dog breed

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers For Adoption Near You

Known in Ireland for more than two centuries, the Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier was the poor man’s hunting dog, a slayer of vermin, a herding dog and a watchdog.

Wheaten Terriers are thought to be one of the ancestors of the Kerry Blue Terrier. The tousled-looking farmer’s dog attracted little attention until a terrier match in 1932 when a group of fanciers decided to form a club.

Wheaten Terriers were first called Irish Wheaten Terriers, but that was considered too close to the Irish Terrier, so it was changed to the present name.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers were first exhibited in 1937 and placed on the list of native Irish breeds. In the beginning, the breed was shown in its natural shaggy state but when other terrier fanciers derided them as looking like so many haystacks, the owners began to ‘top and tidy’ them, eventually resulting in the familiar scissored trim now seen in the North American show ring.

This is indeed a dog that licked the Blarney Stone. The Wheaten Terrier is a happy, steady dog with an aura of self-confidence, inquisitive and alert. A bit more laid-back than many other terriers, the Wheaten Terrier is still spirited, enjoys activity and is ready and willing to learn. He requires no less than a daily brisk walk to satisfy his exercise needs and more will be appreciated.

The ideal height for a male Wheaten Terrier is 18.5 in (47 cm) and weight should fall in the range of 35-45 lb (16-20.5 kg). Female Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers will stand 17.5 in (44 cm) and register 30-35 lb (13.5-16 kg).

The non-shedding, hypoallergenic coat is abundant, soft-textured and wavy.

Pale gold to warm honey is the color of the Wheaten Terrier. Darker shading may be found on the ears and muzzle. Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier puppies are born dark in color and lighten to wheaten as they mature.

Thorough brushing is needed on a regular basis to prevent mats. It takes considerable scissoring skills to trim the coat in the accepted show style.

A hypoallergenic non shedding schnoodle dog

Schnoodles For Adoption Near You

What do you get when you cross the feisty and fun Schnauzer with the highly intelligent, highly trainable and extremely lovable Poodle? A delightful new hybrid breed known as the Schnoodle!

Whether you’re an allergy sufferer looking for a hypo-allergenic dog breed, or a family looking for an intelligent, playful and loving pet, the Schnoodle fits the bill on all counts!

This breed is the result of a cross between the Miniature Poodle or Standard Poodle and the Miniature Schnauzer, Standard Schnauzer or Giant Schnauzer. Understandably, this unique hybrid dog breed comes in a wide range of sizes and colors.

Active, fun and great with children, these designer mutts are becoming very popular world wide – as they are very good at stealing hearts – both by their adorable appearance and wonderful fun-loving personality and intelligence.

Schnoodles come in a range of colors, including silver, black, chocolate and white. Their coats can be wavy or slightly curly – and are very easy to maintain. Grooming needs are moderate – a trip to the groomers is needed about 2 to 4 times a year.

Schoodles like plenty of exercise and need a good, brisk walk every day to keep them happy and healthy. They love to run and play – and are great for dog sports including agility & flyball.

As with many hybrid dog breeds, Schnoodles generally enjoy good health and longevity – and can live as long as 15 years.

Standard schnauzer - a medium hypoallergenic non shedding dog breed

Standard Schnauzers For Adoption Near You

The Standard Schauzer is the oldest member of the Schnauzer family. The other two Schnauzer sizes – the miniature and giant – were developed from the Standard.

Originating in Germany, the Schnauzer was initially used to herd farmyard animals and keep rat populations down. Schnauzers have been depicted in paintings dating back to the 15th century. Originally called the “Wirehaired Pinscher” the Standard Schnauzer was first exhibited in 1879 – the winning dog’s call name was “Schnauzer” (meaning whiskered snout) – hence the new breed name, changed in recognition of this win.

The Standard Schnauzer was brought to North America in the 1920’s. Originally classified as a terrier, the breed now falls under the working group category.

Standard Schnauzers are a healthy, hearty breed with plenty of energy. Measuring from 17 to 20 inches at the shoulder, the breed has a hard, wiry double coat which is either black or salt and pepper with lighter markings on the head, chest, legs and under the tail.

Depending on the owners preference, the Standard Schnauzer may be hand stripped to maintain the classic Schnauzer shape – or simply clippered for a softer coat and grooming ease.

Standard Schnauzers are intelligent, loyal and affectionate and thrive on plenty of love, attention and regular exercise. They are best suited to rural or suburban settings where there is plenty of room to romp. This is a wonderful dog for active families!
