Meet Bailey, German Shepherd Border Collie Mix Dog For Adoption in Houston TX

Have you ever seen a dog with a better smile? We sure haven’t! Bailey is an amazing German Shepherd Border Collie mix dog for adoption in Houston, Texas and surrounding areas.

Just under 3 years old, Bailey weighs 40 pounds – a medium sized dog. A very healthy dog, Bailey has been Spayed, Microchipped, Fully vaccinated, Crate Trained, House Broken, Leash Trained and Obedience Trained. We call her a “ready-to-love” dog. Bailey’s personality is so loving. She is one of those dogs that can steal your heart almost instantly with her cuteness.

She absolutely adores people. She likes to cuddle and to engage in play with you with her many toys. She is very good being left home while you work – she just chills out and plays with her toys.

Bailey is the right dog in the wrong environment. For some reason, she is terrified of other dogs. Her owners live in an apartment and have to take her outside for walks and to do her business. If she encounters other dogs, she tends to want to run away. Her owners have been working to help her gain confidence, but they worry about the stress she experiences, and also that she will one day get loose and run away into traffic or get lost.

Bailey would do so much better in a home where her owners have some teenagers and a great big fenced back yard, It would be much better that Bailey get her exercise playing fetch in the back yard, and have some really fun kids to hang out with.

If you have been looking for an amazing family companion in Houston and area, please consider offering Bailey her forever home. She can’t wait to meet you and charm her way into your heart and home. Adopt Bailey today!

Bailey’s Personality

Bailey is 3 years old, 40 lbs and completely house trained. She is perfectly content to quietly play with her toys or sleep while you are away at work (I work full time outside the home and have a camera where I can check on her throughout the day) and has never been destructive. She does great in the car, and I regularly drive with her and have never had an issue.

She is an agile, beautiful dog and loves to run, but is overall medium energy and content with about an hour of exercise a day. She loves to play with her ball, rope toys and squeaker toys. Bailey is a total snuggle-bug and will curl up next to you while you watch TV or work, or do her own thing if you are busy around the house.

She absolutely loves people once she gets to know them, it takes her about twenty minutes to warm up to someone new in the house, (likely more for groups, though we haven’t had more than two guests at a time) and then she will happily lay down for pets, lick your face and take treats.

Ideally she would go to a family with a backyard so she has the option to play, exercise and go to the bathroom at home. She plays very well with male dogs her size or larger, but does not get along with small dogs, and may get along with female dogs her size or larger on a case-by-case basis. She does not get along with cats. She would be fine with children older than 12, but because she doesn’t like loud noises, should not go to a home with young children.

I am willing to drive out of state (Texas) for the perfect home! And would prefer someone willing to submit a recommendation letter by a vet. Bailey would do best with a family in a suburb/quieter area with a fenced in yard that isn’t looking for a dog that they can take everywhere with them, but that will snuggle and love them when they are home!

Why is Bailey Being Rehomed?

Bailey experiences significant anxiety when we encounter strangers or noise on walks (pulls, tries to run). We live in the city, so we encounter these triggers every time we try to go on a walk, or when we leave the apartment for her to go to the bathroom. I have taken her camping and to visit friends in quieter areas with fenced in backyards and she was much happier there.

We have been diligently training and working with her vet to find the perfect medication for a year now with no improvement. Bailey deserves to live in a place where she can flourish, rather than survive like she is now.
