Sonny Boy has found his forever home! He is now the cherished companion of Debbie, Dave and Georgia in Calgary, Canada! This is a work from home couple with a 10 year old daughter, as well as a cat and a senior Bichon Frise. They have welcomed Sonny into their hearts and home, and he is already feeling like part of the family!

Here’s how our rehoming team presented Sonny to attract his new family:

Hi, My name is Sonny-Boy!

If you are looking for a little dog with a BIG heart, Sonny Boy is the dog for you. He’s an adorable little mixed breed dog – a bit of Chihuahua, probably a healthy helping of Beagle, and who knows what else? The result is a sweet, calm and very affectionate little guy who absolutely cherishes his people. Sonny Boy is just 10, very healthy, neutered and up to date on his shots. He lives in Irvine, CA.

Sonny Boy loves to play with his toys. He has some really amusing and adorable personality traits, including:

  • He loves to be near us and is good off the leash.
  • He has a great personality and plays with his toys.
  • He loves sleeping on our laps, a true lap dog.
  • He makes this little cute noise when he gets super happy like when we go to feed him or just come home, he is so happy this noise is just so cute it makes me happy.
  • When he sleeps sometimes his tongue sticks out the side of his mouth, its too cute!
  • He loves laying in the sun when it shines through the window.
  • Funny when we brush his teeth he chews on the toothbrush, basically brushing them himself.

Sonny is being rehomed by his owners, who are heartbroken to have to make this very difficult decision for him. They are working very long hours, and the poor little guy is left home alone too much of the time. He is such a people-oriented, devoted little fellow, and being home alone just isn’t a good situation for him. He needs to be the cherished companion of someone who will have lots of time to spend with him.

He also really needs a fenced back yard to play and pee in. Currently he is living in an apartment with only a balcony for him to do his business on. The texture of the balcony does not appeal to him – he really needs some nice ground or grass as his potty area.

Sonny gets along just fine with other dogs. He has never met a cat, but would probably be AOK with them, as long as they are dog-friendly. Sonny would be OK for older, dog-saavy kids, but tiny kids who poke eyes, pull tails, drop and squeeze the living daylights out of nine pound dogs would not be a good choice.

Sonny would be an exceptional choice as an emotional support dog. He is extremely devoted and very empathetic to his owner’s state of being. He once sat vigil with his owner, keeping him constant company after a leg injury left him bedridden. A very special dog indeed!

Sonny-Boy’s Current Home Environment

We live in a condo, no backyard. We have a patio only that he can go out on that is on the 3rd floor. We do not have any kids. I travel a lot for work and my wife works fulltime.

Sonny-Boy’s Current Family:

My wife Amy and I have been married for 15 years. We have lived in OC for 18 years. My wife is a purchaser for a large textile firm. I travel throughout the country for my work in pharmaceuticals. My Dad, Uncle, Sister and cousin’s live in OC as well. My wife’s parents and brother live in OC as well.

Sonny-Boy’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Sonny-Boy loves his squeaky toys, he acts like a puppy when he plays with them.
Sonny loves treats (soft ones as he has little teeth) …he love natures balance dry food with a little water added like gravy. Sonny loves to curl up next to you on the couch or in bed and just be near you. Sonny like to go on walks.

Cute Sonny-Boy Story:

I injured my leg last holiday season and I was laid up in bed for a couple weeks. Sonny laid next to me for days only getting up to eat or go outside on a walk. He stayed by my side as he knew something was wrong. Very sweet!

Why is Sonny-Boy Being Rehomed?

Unfortunately my wife and I just are not home enough as I took a new job that has me traveling almost weekly. I was working from home before and could be here with him. We have noticed while away at work that Sonny pees in the house because he is upset. When we are home he does not pee in the house. We took him to the vet to ensure nothing was medically wrong and he is fine according to the vet. We do not have a backyard and believe that Sonny would be better off with someone home more often or retired. Sometimes we are gone 8-9 hours on a normal day if I am traveling and my wife is at work. We don’t think it is fair to him to crate him for this many hours a day.

Sonny-Boy’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Someone who is retired or doesn’t work as much or travel frequently as we do with a house or condo with a backyard. A family that can invest time in training possibly? Someone who has owned a dog before and understands what it takes to love on him and give him attention. I believe that Sonny would be better off without a family with young kids. Someone who will treat him with respect and loving care. He really is a good sweet boy. I wish that this wasn’t the case that we were looking for a better home situation.

Additional Comments:

We love Sonny and want him to be in a home that can provide the time and attention he needs. We are sad to think about it but know it will be best for him as my wife and I are simply not home enough and do not have a proper outdoor space for him to go out during the day.
