Meet Suki – Yellow Labrador Retriever Shiba Inu mix Dog For Adoption by Owner in Bonita California

Suki is a female Yellow Labrador Retriever  Shiba Inu mix dog for adoption in San Diego (Bonita)  to a very loving home. 8 years old and weighing 72 pounds, Suki is a very unique looking dog – with the coloring and body of a Yellow Lab and with distinctive upright, perky ears.

Suki is in good health. She is fixed, fully vaccinated, house-broken and leash trained. She is good with sensible children and with older, low to medium energy dogs and she tolerates cats quite well. Suki is an amazing dog in so many ways.

Learn more about Suki’s health and other traits in the All About Suki section below.

Suki’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming Suki a must-do:

This is an incredibly difficult decision for us. My husband is active duty Navy and has orders to Spain. We have looked into the requirements to fly her to Spain with us, but Suki would have to be crated and put in the cargo hold of a plane and sedation is not allowed, and quite frankly, we think she will end up seriously injured or worse. She has broken out of every crate we’ve ever tried putting her in. We feel the stress of an overseas move will be too much for her. And sadly, we don’t have any family here in the states that can take her.

Secondarily, as much as we love her, she probably doesn’t get as much attention as she really craves/deserves as my husband works long hours and even though I am home, taking care of a four year old and twin two-year old’s leaves very little time to dedicate to solely puppy affection.

Suki’s owners are hoping to find the right home for their cherished dog:

We really don’t want to lose Suki, but we need to do what’s best for her. We hope to find her a family that has lots of time to spoil her, pet her, bring her on walks and play with her in the backyard. She does great with kids but slightly older kids would be ideal for her. She would likely be fine in a home with another adult dog.

All About Suki – Yellow

Labrador Retriever Shiba Inu Mix Dog For Adoption in Bonita California

Name of Pet: Suki
Location: Bonita CA 91902
Type of Pet: dog
Breed of Pet: Yellow Labrador Retriever Shiba Inu mix
Sex of Pet: Female
Age of Pet: 8 years
Spayed/Neutered?: Yes
Health Problems: No
Behavior Issues: Yes Suki lives in our home with our elderly dog and they get along great, but Suki has been aggressive towards some other dogs. It seems like the dogs she does not get along with are younger, very playful and jumpy dogs. I think she would do fine living with another older, mature dog but she would definitely need to be slowly introduced to the other dog.

This isn’t really a behavior issue, but I think it should be noted that she is very athletic/strong. She has also busted out of any crate we’ve ever tried to put her in, regardless of material. She loves going on walks but she does pull on the leash.

Up To Date on Vaccinations: Yes
Gets along with cats: Yes
Gets along with dogs: Unknown
Good with Children?: Yes
House Broken or Litter Trained?: Yes
Crate Trained?: No
Accessories Included: She has 2 dog beds, food and water bowl, slip lead, and harness with retractable leash. She has her dog collar and tags. All of her medical records.

Suki’s Personality

Suki is such a loyal and sweet dog! She definitely has some “typical” Labrador traits such as wanting constant affection and pacing when she is nervous. She is very protective of her family but has never been aggressive to any person once they are let into the home.

She is wonderful with our children (2 and 4 years old). If the kids start getting a little too grabby for her, she just gets up and moves. She also loves to play with them and will let them chase her around the back yard. She always has to be near one of her humans.

She follows us from room to room and will lay by us while we work on something. She does not lick or jump but will put her paw on you when she wants more attention. We had two cats when we brought Suki home and she was wonderful with them (however they were older cats and I’m not sure how she would do with a very young cat/kitten that does a lot of sudden movements and running).

She really doesn’t bark much. The only time she barks is when someone knocks on the door. She does well at boarding facilities, we just don’t let her do the group play times out of caution. She can be a little shy/introverted at first but she will warm up to her new family.

Suki is an Amazing Companion Because She is:

her sweet personality
she is a beautiful dog
the way she wags her tail (she can move it in all directions and it’s so cute!)
she is wonderful with our kids and our elderly dog and was wonderful with our cats when they were still alive
she rarely barks and does not lick or jump

Suki’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Suki doesn’t really play with toys. Her favorite activity is being pet. She just lives for attention/affection. She eats dry dog food (we serve Kirkland brand salmon and sweat potato). She loves going on walks and car rides and loves laying out in the sunshine in the back yard.

Cute Suki Story:

Before we brought our first born home from the hospital, we brought some newborn clothing home (stocking cap) so that our dogs could smell him. Suki sniffed it for a couple minutes, then gently opened her mouth and picked it up ever so gently with just her front teeth and brought it to bed with her and curled up and nuzzled it for what seemed like forever. She was so welcoming to our new addition.

Why is Suki Being Rehomed?

As a side note, if things are not working out with the new family, we would be willing and able to take her back at the end of our time in Spain (Fall of 2023). We hope this is not the case though as we hope to find her a home that loves her and can’t live without her!

Suki’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

We really don’t want to rehome Suki, but we need to do what’s best for her. We hope to find her a family that has lots of time to spoil her, pet her, bring her on walks and play with her in the backyard. She does great with kids but slightly older kids would be ideal for her.

She would likely be fine in a home with another dog as long as the other dog is older and doesn’t run around/play too much. Suki seems to react negatively to very hyper/young dogs.
