Looking for a Blue Heeler dog for adoption in San Diego, California? Nixon would love to be considered for the position of your cherished family companion.
Meet Nixon – San Diego’s Cool, Calm, and Collected Heeler
Some dogs beg for attention, nudging your hand endlessly or plopping their entire weight across your lap. Not Nixon. This handsome 1.5-year-old Blue Heeler knows the fine art of balance: affectionate without being clingy, loyal without being overbearing, and playful without being wild. He’s the kind of best friend who says, “I’m here if you need me,” then quietly makes the world feel steadier just by being nearby.

Nixon adores being petted, but unlike his brother Lincoln, he won’t smother you for affection. He has a wise, independent streak, a little old-soul sparkle in those speckled eyes, yet when it’s time to play, he can run circles with the best of them. His favorite game? Teaming up with Lincoln for epic rounds of “keep the stick away,” turning a simple branch into a trophy worthy of a full-speed chase.
Like many Heelers, Nixon is protective at heart—he’ll sound the alarm with a bark or two—but it’s all talk. One gentle “enough” and he settles, content to observe his kingdom with calm dignity. At night, he curls onto his bed and sleeps straight through until morning, dreaming of wide-open fields and the next round of backyard games.
Why is such a wonderful dog being rehomed? Simply put: love and circumstance. With two kids growing, new business ventures beginning, and schedules stretched to the brim, Nixon’s family realized they can’t give him and his brother the time, space, and attention they deserve. The decision was heartbreaking, but it was made with Nixon’s happiness in mind.
Nixon would thrive in a home with plenty of room to run, a yard where he can stretch his legs, and people who appreciate his easygoing yet playful spirit. He’s deeply bonded to Lincoln, and ideally, they’d love to stay together—two brothers who’ve weathered life’s ups and downs side by side, always stronger as a pair.
If you’re looking for a dog who will bring steadiness, laughter, and love to your home, Nixon is ready to meet you. He’s not just a pet—he’s a true partner, waiting to share his heart with the family that says yes.
👉 Apply today to adopt Nixon and let this incredible boy show you the quiet magic of unconditional love.
Please Note: Nixon would love to be adopted with his best bud and brother, Lincoln. These two boys have grown up side by side, sharing adventures, naps, and endless games of “keep away.” They are happiest when they’re together, and adopting them as a bonded pair means double the love, double the laughter, and double the loyalty.

Nixon’s Personality
Nixon is much less anxious and more independent. Much like his brother, he can be protective (all bark, no bite). His barks can easily be silenced when told to stop. We have a common grass area in our HOA, where neighbors bring their dogs and kids out to play in the evening. We have never had a problem with him interacting and running around with everyone. He LOVES to run around and play with his brother Lincoln. They both have lots of energy due to their age and breed and they will entertain each other for hours if they have the open space.
Nixon does not have much experience with animals other than dogs. He didn’t seem to like the crate as much as Lincoln, so we didn’t force it. He chose to sleep on a dog bed, which he still does to this day. He easily sleeps through the night in our home without any bathroom accidents.
Nixon’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
Identical to his brother. He seems to find more enjoyment out of sticks and feathers that he finds out around the house. Him and his brother will chase each other and play “keep the stick away” from one another. He loves food. He will eat every meal with urgency, as if it’s his last. Open area playing is where he loves to be.
Cute Nixon Story:
Why is Nixon Being Rehomed?
My wife and I have two kids. Now that they are Kindergarten age and getting older, my wife wants to get back into the work force with a new business that she is starting up. Between both our work schedules and our kids getting older and participating in more activities (school, sports, etc.), we are finding that it is too hard to give our energetic dogs the proper attention they need to thrive.
Nixon’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
As I mentioned, due to their age and breed, they love being outside and in the open. A large yard or a home with any kind of acreage would be ideal for them. We are looking for a family that can take both of them together. We believe that they have had some rough times as puppies, and they got through those times together. We separate them (front yard/back yard) when we give them bones, because they will fight with each other if one finishes first. But when they both are finished and they are separated for much longer, they will whimper for each other. At least that’s what we believe, they have no other reason to be whining.
