Geralt’s Personality
Geralt is sweet and very intelligent. He loves his people and all friendly animals, is a natural caregiver to smaller critters, he knows all basic commands, learns quickly, and always strives to be a good boy.
He still has a bit of puppy energy, and while he loves to play, he is not and has never been destructive. He respects any boundaries we’ve taught him, but his guardian instincts are strong and he needs a family who respects and understands that part of him.
He gets nervous in new situations and typically needs some calm sniffs and about 10 minutes of warm up time before he feels at ease with new people.
Geralt’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
Cardboard paper towel tubes, playing fetch with stuffies, dog park adventures, snuggling with his family, walks, swimming, dried liver bits, playing chase with other dogs, learning new tricks.
Cute Geralt Story:
Once when we went to the dog park and there happened to be three other large white dogs (different breeds) there. He was so curious and confused at first, like “are they all me?”, and then they all started playing together and turned into a little storm of white dogs, booting out other coloured dogs who tried to play with them. It was really interesting to see, and his mind was a little blown by it all.
Why is Geralt Being Rehomed?
We acquired Geralt as an 8 week old puppy while we lived on a farm. He was meant to guard our farm and animals, and he did a very good job. About a year after we got Geralt, I decided to sell our farm and move to Calgary.
I work full-time, and Geralt has gotten so big. I’m extremely stretched for time and energy as I balance work, parenting, and managing our household. I don’t always have enough minutes in the day to walk both dogs, and dog park visits are not always easy for us. I don’t feel like his quality of life is great with us. As a family we’ve agreed he would likely lead a much happier life with someone who has the time and energy for him.
Geralt’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
– Kids should be 8 years or older
– Other dogs are okay
– Cats are okay (he might annoy them with his love though)
– Must have daily access to open spaces (large yard, dog park)
– Must understand and have experience with large breed dogs
– Geralt must sleep indoors (he is an indoor, family boy)
– Geralt is an excellent companion and will want to spend lots of time with his favourite people
– Property fencing or dedicated boundary training is essential for acreages/farms
– New family must understand he is *not* a Labrador Retriever, and must understand or research the Akbash breed before committing to taking him.
