To have such a sweet, laid back and outgoing personality is fairly rare in cats – they usually tend to be cautious and frightened of loud noises, commotion, and new people. Not Simone – she couldn’t be more friendly and engaging with her people. Simone would be a wonderful addition for a family looking for a special pet to teach their kids about love, caring, kindness and responsibility.
Simone is something of a celebrity in Berkeley, where she was born and raised. She was adopted as a kitten, and took lessons in being a cat from a pair of indoor-outdoor cats that belonged to her aunt. Simone spent lots of time outdoors, paying visits to people throughout the neighborhood. She was so well loved that people on the street came to expect visits from Simone each day. She reveled in her role as “neighborhood pet” and took her job very seriously.
Simone’s owner describes her personality as follows:
She has a great personality. Part diva, part lover. Very playful. She likes to wrestle. She likes to roll around in the sun. She is a social butterfly. If you’re out on a walk, she will follow you like a dog.
Unfortunately, Simone’s owner had to move to an apartment in San Diego, and brought Simone along, hoping she would adjust to life as an indoors only cat. Simone is not taking it well, and in her strong need to get outdoors, has done damage to furniture and even a dishwasher. This is no life for a cat like Simone, and her owner realizes that she needs a home on a quiet street where she can spend time outdoors safely, and gain a new audience in San Diego.
Simone is a very special cat, and needs a family who live in a house so that she can go outside as often as she likes. Simone is OK with other cats and cat-friendly dogs. She needs a family who will cherish and keep Simone safe, happy, and healthy as she enjoys getting to know the people in her neighborhood.

I adopted her as a stray when I lived with my aunt who had two indoor/outdoor cats, so Simone was raised to be an indoor/outdoor cat. She knew everyone in the neighborhood in Berkeley. She was a celebrity cat in the neighborhood — so well loved.
But then I had to move to San Diego to an apartment and I’ve tried to make her indoor life really great, but she is destroying furniture and even my dishwasher, so she needs a home that can provide outdoor access during the day.
She loves to snuggle in bed at your feet or head at night, but really needs to be outdoors and around people. She’s ok with other cats — she doesn’t love other cats, but she can get along.

Why is Simone Being Rehomed?
See above, and I’ve tried harnessing her and taking her outside, all kinds of cat toys, cardboard scratching posts, cat towers, I play with her throughout the day, but none of these things replace the rich life she had being outside all day and then coming home at night. I love her very much, be feel that I’ve made her life a little kitty prison, and she would be so much happier in a home that had more people and access to the outside.
