All About Toast – Border Collie Puppy For Adoption in Calgary Alberta

Name of Pet: Toast
Location: Calgary, Alberta, T3G 0G2
Type of Pet: Dog
Breed of Pet: Border Collie
Color / Coat Type: Long coat, mostly black with tan fur on feet and white fur around neck and along chest.
Age of Pet: 8.5 months
Size of Pet: 45 lbs
Health Problems: Yes
He has chronic GI issues and despite many vet appointments and tests, we don’t know the cause. His symptoms are primarily loss of appetite and intermittent diarrhea.
Behavior Issues: Reactivity
He has fear-based reactivity especially towards fast-moving things like scooters and bikes, which usually look like lunging and barking towards the trigger. He is typically okay with cars unless they are really loud and revving their engine.

He also has some noise sensitivity which can be typically well managed with white-noise machines and calming music for dogs. He loves car rides in the country but really struggles in the car through the city, especially when we have to stop at traffic lights and he sees people in the cars around us.

He has stranger danger, so if someone he doesn’t know approaches him he will typically bark and lunge until taken away. However, if he goes into a new building such as the vet or daycare he typically doesn’t display any reactivity but instead is quite shy and will take a little while to warm up. Once he knows someone he is incredibly friendly and loving.

Gets along with: Dogs
Pet is: Microchipped, Fully vaccinated, Crate Trained, House Broken
Food: Other
He has been on a diet trial of Purina DRM kibble for a week now. He has a very low appetite and the times of day that he is willing to eat varies, so it is difficult to keep a feeding schedule.

Toast’s Personality

He is very loving and sweet once he knows someone. He isn’t super cuddly but will definitely choose to lie down near you whenever you’re around. He really enjoys playing (especially chasing around soccer balls). He LOVES to learn and whenever he is able to have treats (this is dependent on his health issues) to do some training he is very eager.

We would be able to send all of his toys and supplies with him.

Why is Toast Being Rehomed?

We have been working with Toast on his reactivity and seeing lots of success but as his health and mainly his interest in food has significantly declined over the last month, we haven’t been able to help him work through his anxiety and fear of the world around him.

We live in a basement suite in a suburban community and while our house used to be an okay space for him, it is clear to us that Toast is facing additional anxiety from the noise he can hear above us and the number of kids and people in the neighbourhood.

We were hoping that if we could find him a home with lots of space (potentially an acreage) and another dog (he really loves playing with other dogs) that he could still have a really happy life despite his health issues and reactivity.

Thank you for your interest in this deserving Border Collie Puppy for adoption in Calgary Alberta.
