Australian Cattle Dog Mix Dog for Adoption in Southmont, NC

Looking for a Australian Cattle Dog Mix Dog to adopt in Southmont, NC, near Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Charlotte? Just 1-2yrs years old and weighing 40 lbs, Treasure has been housebroken and crate trained and is good with Older Children, Dogs, Cats, and Small Animals.

Treasure arrived on his foster owner’s property several months ago, and has been lovingly cared-for in the hope that a new home can be found for this very deserving dog.  Throughout this time, Treasure has been discovered to be an amazing dog, with so many characteristics that make him such a special companion. It is unthinkable that someone would abandon this dog in the country. However, as the old adage goes: “One person’s trash is another’s treasure”, and that is where he gets his name.

Adopt Treasure!

Treasure’s foster owner describes him as follows:

Calm yet always ready to play (fetch, chase, walking). Very loyal, meaning, the dog wants to go with his master everywhere, including riding in a pickup truck to take the trash to the Recycle Center. Gentle, yet protective of his family. He is “skittish” of anyone unfamiliar approaching his house until his master says it’s ok. The dog NEVER barks – in the months I have fostered him the dog has ONLY barked ONCE – at the lawnmower in April, because he thought the riding mower was hurting me since it was so loud. Very attentive to his master – this dog learns very quickly what to do and not to do. Enjoys snuggling, although I don’t snuggle with him, the dog always tries to snuggle with me.

What a handsome dog!

Why is Treasure Being Rehomed?

This “puppy” dog was abandoned at my country home some months ago. I am a full-time caregiver to a geriatric dementia parent who requires hour-by-hour monitoring. Though this smart dog is well behaved, does not bark nor slobber, learns quickly & is obedient, he requires more “puppy training”, play time, and attention than I can give to him. The dog is simply a tremendous burden on me as I am totally immersed in taking care of my ailing father, and all upkeep of our home, meals, bills, schedules, cleaning, etc etc, all by myself. He is too good of a dog to take to the local pound, who would euthanize the dog w/in 72hrs, if no one claims him. I’m trying to do what is right by this excellent dog. He honestly deserves a great forever home where he can roam free, and would love a play pal!

Treasure’s foster has provided the following information:
• Dog age 1-2 yrs, per veterinarian. Good teeth. Does not have a name yet. No microchip. Does not have his vet shots yet.
• Vet has categorized Treasure as an Australian Cattle Dog mix.
• Potty trained (MUST sleep inside at night). Stays outside during the day, but we can tell he really wants to be in the house with people.
• Doesn’t bark (since Nov.2021 has only barked twice..at lawn mower in April2022.). Doesn’t slobber at all. Only whines once in a while when deeply concerned about something.
• Well mannered & well behaved (doesn’t chew on anything as long as he has bones to occupy his attention). Loves to chew rawhide & big bones all day.
• Smart, quick learner, obedient: treat-based obedience. He learns what I want him to do, and NOT to do rather quickly as he is always rewarded with a treat snack for obedient behavior. Very loyal & aims to please his master. Very loving.
• Learned how to “sit” & “stay” within 1 week.
• “Points” with raised leg & tail when he sees squirrel or bird movement. Chases all wildlife out of yard, esp. birds-squirrels. He would make an EXCELLENT bird hunting dog.
• MUST play outside daily. Requires ample yard space to run & play: loves to fetch and also be chased after he fetches.
• Dog comes with $30 dog bed. $40 worth of his favorite treats. Dry dog food. A dozen of his current favorite chew toys. A couple favorite blankets.
• Dog loves to ride in the front seat of our pickup truck and stare out the front window until he gets tired after 10 min & lays down in seat to rest.
• Dog is currently learning how to walk on a leash. He doesn’t like a rope around his neck & is terrified of chains and car keys (metal clanking sounds). Dog is ok wearing a collar, but needs more practice walking with a leash.

MUST sleep inside the house in his new home. This is not negotiable. He is a fantastic dog and needs a home where he will be treated as a first-hand family member.
