Looking for a terrific family dog? Trooper is a very adorable young male American Foxhound Border Collie mix looking for his forever family. Located in Georgetown, near Austin, Texas, This 2 year old neutered male is a medium sized dog weighing 45 pounds. He is good with older, respectful children and some dogs.
Trooper is looking for owners who live in a house with a large, securely fenced yard for him to play in. He needs a good amount of activity, so needs owners with lots of time and energy to spend on him.
Trooper is very intelligent and tuned in to his humans. He combines the best qualities of both American Fox Hound and Border Collie into one sensitive, affectionate, sweet and empathetic family dog.
Trooper would do very well with owners who have a strong daily routine. Like many dogs, Trooper can be anxious with loud, unexpected or “strange” noises. (Fireworks and thunder included). This sensitivity is part of what makes him such a devoted companion – able to cheer you up no matter what kind of day you are having.

Trooper’s Current Home Environment
Trooper has had to bounce around a good bit within the family because Taylor (his main owner) is in the Air Force and has been deployed or re-stationed a couple of time. So, Trooper has been at Taylor’s dad’s house recently where he has a yard to roam in, another dog to play with, and occasionally kids around to play with. The home has other dogs around and inside the home is a calming environment.
Trooper’s Current Family:
Our family is very loving and have treated Trooper this way, too. There are people in and out of the house of multiple ages so it can get a little loud, and there are also multiple dogs and pets in the family. It took Trooper a little bit to warm up to them, but once he did, they were best buds.
Trooper’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
Trooper loves to play outside and chase squirrels or whatever he can find in the yard. Otherwise, he isn’t picky and just likes to be active.
Cute Trooper Story:
Trooper was a much needed companion and friend to Taylor when he returned home from being deployed and was going through some difficult times. He know when to be loving and when to be playful and can always cheer someone up. He has the sweetest face and “smile” that is contagious and will be a great friend to another family.
Why is Trooper Being Rehomed?
Taylor (Trooper’s owner who is in training right now and has very little communication right now so he asked me to help) is in the Air Force so his job requires him to be gone a lot. His family has been helping in the meantime, but they can no longer watch him as they have their own pets and families to take care of and hadn’t planned on making an addition.
As much as Taylor would love to keep him, he is constantly on the move and when he is home, he lives in a small apartment with no yard, which is not a good environment for Trooper. So as sad as he is, he is making the choice to be more fair and beneficial to Trooper.
Trooper’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
We are looking for a loving family with a good, fenced-in yard. This is important for setting Trooper and the family up for success. He does well with kids as long as they can play with him maturely.
He has been sleeping indoors and gets to play outside throughout the day so a similar set-up to that would be ideal. We are just looking for someone to give him the stable, loving home he deserves- we know he will be so loving in return.
