Spirit is a black german shepherd collie mix dog for adoption in palm beach gardens florida

Meet Spirit, a Collie German Shepherd mix Dog for adoption by owner in Palm Beach Gardens FL.

Looking for a German Shepherd Collie mix dog for adoption in Palm Beach Gardens Florida and area? A senior and weighing  75 pounds, this lovely Collie German Shepherd mix dog has been leash and obedience trained. Spirit is good with older children and adults, as well as dog-friendly dogs.

This gentle and sweet older female is in need of a very special home where she will be absolutely cherished for the rest of her life.

Spirit is a rescue dog that has experienced all the bad things humans can do to animals. Her foster has been working very hard to show her the good things like care, concern, unconditional love, exceptional nutrition, gentle exercise, and how it feels to be safe, happy, and on the road to better health.

Andie had intended to provide Spirit’s forever home, but circumstances conspired to make this impossible. Covid has wreaked havoc on the family’s health, while the financial setbacks have caused the failure of the family’s business. They are scrambling to make ends meet and put food on the table, so are not able to afford to care for Spirit the way they had planned to. Their other dog has shown aggression towards Spirit, making it necessary to keep them separate, in different areas of the home.

Type of Pet: Dog
Breed of Pet: Collie German Shepherd mix
Color / Coat Type: Medium
Age of Pet: Senior
Size of Pet: Tall, 75lbs,

Highly allergic. Needs a special hydrolyzed protein diet with digestive enzymes, slippery elm to aid nutrient absorption, and pro-biotics to keep stools intact. Sometimes there are accidents. Needs supervision for multiple walks and shouldn’t be alone all day. Her veterinarian has excused her from ALL vaccines, as she’s allergic and that contributes to diarrhea, a chronic dry eye infection, and general toxicity, which is reflected in skin and coat. I’ll need someone who takes her on with the same values as I have. She’s become a different dog under my care for the better, due to the health regimen and someone who can provide a holistic medical approach is non-negotiable.

Spirit’s Personality

Beautiful Gentle. Responsive. For a large wolf-like dog, that’s incredible. Her ears display her moods and emotions. She’s really lovely. She doesn’t have shepherd markings, it’s all black minus some tan on her ankles. She’s gorgeous and we do love her. I really don’t want to do this, but I am not superwoman.

She can have all of her belongings. The only way that I can release her is to know that she may get a better chance in life to do so. Releasing dogs, who I feel are like children is just not in my nature. If i can find someone as holistic as I am and more stable and with more time and space, to deeply connect without another territorial dog in the way and financial trouble with the humans,, then my conscience can be at peace with this decision. She desperately deserves a happy ending and I feel that that direct unfettered bond can heal her more than my fragmented spread thin attention can do after my covid crises. It’s VERY hard to ask for help but for HER I will try, which is why I do NOT wish to release her to a shelter after her experience. Her days of trauma and rejection are over.

Why is Spirit Being Rehomed?

Financial distress and emotional toil, due to covid. My husband lost his business. She was adopted a year and a half ago and was in far worse condition, due to a traumatic history. Starved and neglected and then transferred to two shelters, then pumped with vaccines in both of them and became overweight and highly toxic with joint pain. Skin allergies, eye infection that wouldn’t clear with antibiotics and hair fell out in clumps. It’s been an almost two year detox for her on a holistic regimen and she’s so much better but needs a larger home, a less stressed family and a more relaxed life to bring her healing to the next level. My current dog is territorial with her, so she is relegated to only one space in the house and there’s limited room to move due to dog aggression. She deserves better because she’s worth it. Perhaps the pooping issue will resolve with more attention and less stress for her. I’ve been trying to find work, am unavailable to maintain her level of monitoring and I’m not able to take care of her anymore financially. I’ve sold belongings and my car, just to feed the family and provide medical care.

Thank you for your interest in this deserving Collie German Shepherd mix Dog for adoption in FL.
