Mr G’s family knows that people don’t always believe them when they say their cat loves broccoli.
But he really does.
If someone brings broccoli home with dinner and calls out, “Treat!”, Mr G comes running.
He happily eats two or three broccoli florets and then wanders away a very satisfied little cat.
Every pet has something that makes them uniquely themselves.
For Mr G, we think the broccoli obsession is pretty hard to beat.
Understanding Mr G’s Boundaries
We want Mr G’s adopter to understand him completely, including the behaviors that require a little management.
Mr G spent part of his earlier life as what his family describes as a “porch cat,” and food is tremendously exciting to him.
When someone is getting food ready, he may jump up and attempt to take it before it is offered. In the excitement, this can result in an inadvertent bite.
Importantly, his family says this behavior is easy to avoid. Mr G does not bite when food is actually being given to him. The problem occurs during the excitement of seeing food being prepared or taken out.
His current family manages this by simply keeping him away from the food-preparation area until everything is ready. A home where the kitchen can be closed off would be especially convenient.
Mr G can also become overstimulated by prolonged petting. If interaction continues after he’s had enough, he may nip.
This is why we’re looking for an adult, cat-savvy home for him.
Someone experienced with cats will understand that feline affection doesn’t always mean “pet me indefinitely.” Mr G communicates when he’s reaching his limit, and an adopter who watches his body language and respects those signals should be able to avoid pushing him beyond his comfort zone.
For this reason, Mr G is not a suitable match for a home with children.

Mr G belongs to Doranna, a senior woman who needs to move into assisted living, and unfortunately, the facility will not allow her to bring Mr G with her.
