Shiba Inu Dog for Adoption in Calgary, Alberta

Looking for a Shiba Inu Dog to adopt in Calgary, Alberta? Just 2 years old years old and weighing 14 kgs, Mika has been fixed, fully vaccinated, housebroken, microchipped, leash trained, and crate-trained.  Mika is a sweet, cuddly dog, but like all Shibas, she needs plenty of exercise and stimulation.  She is good with adults and children older than 12, but not with babies or small children.

Mika’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog. Mika needs a home without small children or other pets. They have a 1 year old baby, and are unable to give this beautiful dog the recreation and environment she needs (they live in an apartment).

Mika would be perfect for retired dog owners who don’t have to leave her home alone for long periods of time.  She needs a house with a decent sized yard to play in. They are hoping to find a new home for Mika where this special dog will be cherished and kept safe, happy, and healthy for life.

Mika – Shiba Inu Dog For Adoption in Calgary Alberta

Mika’s Personality

Mika is very sweet and loves to cuddle, but she is not an obedient dog and she will try everything to get your attention – she frequently takes our baby’s toys and decorative objects so we will try to catch her and get the objects back. If she doesn’t exercise she will get destructive – which sometimes will also happen when you leave her alone at home, and that’s why we always put her in the crate when we have to leave home. She’s normally a quiet dog unless she hears another dog barking – then she will bark in response. She LOVES walking in parks and playing in the snow. In our experience, the more exercise she gets, the calmer she will be during the day. But even with all the exercises, she will get the zoomies often (running excited around the house for a few minutes).

Why is Mika Being Rehomed?

She is a very sweet dog, but we have a 1 year old baby and we’ve been trying to make them get along since our baby was born, but she never really got used to him. Now that he is crawling and almost walking, they can’t be in the same room together because she threatens him – she tried to bite him once.

She is also getting aggressive towards my sister’s dog – although she normally behaves pretty well in dog parks. We live in an apartment so we’ve been keeping her in our room to avoid any  situation between her and the baby, but we don’t think it’s fair with her, since she needs a lot of space, attention and exercise.

We truly believe that she can be happier with a loving family that can provide space and lots of physical activities and cuddling, she really just wants to feel included and play a lot. You also have to know that she is a HEAVY shedder.

Mika is somewhat big for her breed. The standard for Shiba Inu females is 9kg as adults.
