ADOPTED – Unique 4 YO Canaan Dog From Saudi Arabia Tampa FL

Talia has been adopted. Thank you for your interest in this very unique and special girl!

Hi, My name is Talia!

Canaan dog for adoption tampa florida

Talia is a very unique and special dog, indeed! This 4 year old Canaan dog came to Tampa, Florida from Saudi Arabia, where she was adopted as a stray from a US military base. She was born in the desert; her mother a canine member of a local Bedouin tribe. Her breed has served these nomadic desert people as guardian, protector and companion for centuries. A noble, loyal and very intelligent and protective breed.

In bringing Talia to the US, her adoptive owner had planned for Talia to be her companion for life, but as luck would have it, the condo association where she lives will not allow her to have Talia live with her. It breaks her heart; Talia is such a loving, devoted and affectionate dog – a real friend.

She has looked far and wide for a good home for Talia, but this is a dog that needs a very special situation in order to shine in her new home.

Talia is not good with children, cats or strangers. She gets along well with dogs that are smaller than she, but not with large dogs. Talia is somewhat cat-like in her personality. She is very suspicious of strangers, and until she feels completely at ease with a person, she is unfriendly. It is very important that her new owners allow Talia to warm up to them on her own time. They will be richly rewarded, however, as Talia is so incredibly affectionate and devoted – the ultimate companion – once she has accepted that you are her owner and keeper.

Talia is looking for a quiet, preferably rural home with a securely fenced yard in which to perform her duties as guardian. She is not suited for someonw who entertains a lot, or has children coming to the home.

Talia is very healthy. She has been spayed, is up to date on shots and perfectly house trained. She is crate trained, and fine being left in her crate while you are away. Once she has accepted you as her owner and keeper, you will not find a more loving and devoted dog.

If this beautiful, exotic dog piques your interest, please get in touch with Debbie Moore, pet rehoming coordinator, at (888) 720-3322. I will be happy to discuss Talia with you and help you make an educated decision about whether she would be a good match for you and your home.

Thanks for your interest in Talia!

Personality

Talia needs a Foster that has a lot of patience and does not approach her in the first week. She needs to come to you BUT she still needs a strong and firm hand. She is good with most smaller dogs but bigger dogs she does not like or is afraid of. Once she is used to you she is a great teddy bear and will pay you back 100 fold with love and loyalty. Tally loves to run since she is build like a Greyhound or a Saluki, so a yard would be great.

Food and Diet

Talia is currently on Other

Beneful (dry)
Science Diet (wet)

Reason For Rehoming

When I brought her to the U.S., my condo association does not allow dogs and chose not to honor/recognize that Talia is a comfort dog even though I have a letter endorsed by Veteran Affairs. So my condo is currently for sale.
