Looking for a Mastador dog for adoption in Indianapolis, IN? Winnie would love to be considered for the position of your cherished family companion.

Winnie the Watchdog – Loyal, Loving, and Looking for Her Person

There’s a kind of love that doesn’t come loud and fast — it arrives slowly, deliberately, like the sun rising over a quiet backyard where a gentle giant lounges in the grass, ears perked, heart open. That’s Winnie.

This sweet, strong, soulful Mastador (a magnificent blend of English Mastiff and Labrador Retriever) is five years old and full of quiet devotion, the kind that sneaks up on you and stays forever.

Winnie doesn’t give her heart to just anyone — and that’s part of her magic. When she loves you, she really loves you. She’ll curl up beside you on the couch when you’ve had a tough day. She’ll make eye contact that says, “I see you. I’ve got you.”

She’s fiercely protective of her people, especially the ones who need her most. Ask her former family’s teenage niece, who once arrived feeling fragile, only to find Winnie tucked up beside her like a furry bodyguard with a heart of gold.

Winnie’s heart is enormous — but so is her awareness. She’s alert, cautious with strangers (especially men), and isn’t one to share space with other pets (with the notable exception of her best friend Gus, a Pomsky dog, who is also available for adoption).

She’d do beautifully with a woman or a family with older children or teens who can give her the space and time to settle in and shine. She’s loyal, she’s brave, and she’s happiest in a calm home where unexpected noises are few and love is steady.

Winnie has a few special needs: she suffers from seasonal allergies that cause her to scratch her ears, but allergy chews help keep things manageable. She’s crate trained, housebroken, and always on patrol — a born protector with the heart of a nurturer.

Winnie’s current family adores her and made the heartbreaking decision to rehome Winnie and Gus due to space constraints and the arrival of very young children. It’s a decision made out of deep love and a desire for Winnie to thrive in a home better suited to her temperament and needs.

Winnie doesn’t want the spotlight — she wants a soft place to land, a quiet space to breathe, and someone who understands that the best things in life are worth earning. She would love to stay with Gus if possible, but she’s also open to finding her own path to happiness.

Winnie & Gus’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

They both love chewing on their bones. They love stuffed animals (until they get the squeaker out. Gus likes to hang on to a stuffed animal after all of the fluff is gone. They love Nubz treats and peanut butter. They are not given table food. Winnie loves to hunt for small prey in the backyard. They both love to play with each other. Winnie likes to bask in the sun on a nice day.

Cute Winnie Story:

When my teenage niece was having a tough time, she came to stay with us for a few nights. Winnie instantly cuddled up to her and kept looking her in the eye to check that she was okay.

We have joint custody of my step daughter. When she wasn’t with us, Winnie used to climb in her car seat during car rides.

Why is Winnie Being Rehomed?

Unfortunately, our home has been losing space for years and it’s getting tighter. We have very small children that the pups are not good with. We won’t be in a position to move to a larger home for a few more years. It’s just not fair to the pups.

Winnie’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

If they could be rehomed together that would be ideal. If not, they both need to be in a place with older kids/teenagers or no kids. Winnie gets very nervous. Any noises, knocks, doorbells, etc will make her bark. A home would be better than an apartment from a noise perspective.
