Meet Zoey – Pre-Loved Havanese Dog For Adoption by Owner in Valrico FL

Zoey and Rico are a pair of 7 year old bonded female and male Havanese dogs for adoption to a very loving home. Both dogs weigh approximately 19 pounds.

They currently live with their owner in Valrico, Florida, but she is hoping to relocate the dogs to Atlanta, Georgia, where thunderstorms are not as frequent.

Amazing Things About Zoey:

  • Zoey is precious because she is lovable, even if she decides when and how!
  • She is incredibly smart, a tiny bit stubborn in how she shows affection and she’s a fast little runner who loves to be in charge of the dog group, but she does know her place in a pack.
  • She’s super playful and doesn’t run out of energy, but will catch some dog naps here and there.

 Amazing Things About Rico:

  • Rico’s love for people is super adorable.
  • He loves to play fetch and he looks like he’s smiling when he’s happy
  • He is incredibly affectionate.
  • He is a pack follower and loves to rumble and play, but his favorite activity just might be looking out the window and watching “dog TV.”

Can you believe that i put up with this?

Ricos Personality

Rico is soo lovable. He will often want to snuggle up on a person he’s particularly fond of and he’s playful. He absolutely loves to have a window to look out of. If you let him, he will want to come snuggle on the bed with you.

Rico is definitely the quieter one between the two, but does love playing with his sister. He’s also great with other dogs as the two of them have gone to Doggy Daycares quite a bit over the years,.

Rico’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Like most Havanese, Rico does love a good squeak toy and can often get playful with that after dinner. He and his sister are on the Hill Science diet, plus I include a different kind of food topper such as Olewo dehydrated carrots or the Raw Instinct toppers to “spice” up the boringness of just the kibble.

Both Zoey and Rico love to window watch and they also love playing with other dogs.

Cute Rico Story:

Rico is so lovable. He will often want to snuggle up on a person he’s particularly fond of and he’s playful. I misjudged one time his strong need to be able to look outside…

We had moved to a small apartment for our first place in Florida. There was one back door that you could look out. It had blinds and during a time where I had to be gone, he made his own way to look out. LOL!

Yes, that meant chewing away a bit at the plastic wooden blinds so he could see. It still makes me chuckle because it was minimal damage, but proved just how important that activity was for him!

Ok mom, i think these have been on long enough!

Zoey’s Personality

Zoey is a mix of sass with a sprinkle of sweet. She actually reminds me of a cat sometimes because she wants your affection on her terms, but she is also that typical Havanese dog who loves her human.

Zoey is a barker, but not to the point of being overbearing with it.  She also is the alpha between the small pack of her and her brother, Rico.

Zoey does get anxious and doesn’t do well with loud noises. For example thunderstorms are very difficult for her as are fireworks. I have her on a vet-prescribed medication for anxiety, called Trazadone, for those situations.

I would really prefer placing my precious Havanese dogs in a location and new home where Thunderstorms are much less frequent. Sadly, I moved to an area (Tampa Bay) where they are much more common for too long of a period to be healthy, in my opinion, for Zoey. I feel that Atlanta would be a great option for them.

Cute Zoey Story

Zoey is the cutest stinker. Her cuteness has saved her many times. One very cold winter in IL, I’m talking below zero temps, we were out doing the business of potty because my attempt for them to go in the garage on pee pads was not welcomed by her. She had to “go outside.”

So balloon booties on and bundled up we went. They got their business done, and in the process of me getting them back in, my frozen gloved hands accidentally dropped the leash.

She then went on a neighborhood escapade romping and playing in the snow! It was hard not to laugh because it was so cold and for a breed that does well in the warmer climate, both Zoey and Rico have loved the snow, too.

Zoey’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Zoey isn’t too much into toys, but she does enjoy the chew toys where you get a treat.

She and her brother are on the Hills Science diet dog food brand, plus I include a different kind of food topper such as Olewo dehydrated carrots or the Raw Instinct toppers to “spice” up the boringness of just the kibble.

Both Zoey and Rico love to window watch and they also love playing with other dogs.

They both enjoy going for walks. (Leash training/walking needs some correction for when the pair are walked together)

Why are Zoey and Rico Being Rehomed?

The owner’s life circumstances have changed quite dramatically, where previously the work-from home situation was conducive to being a pet parent.  However, out of necessity and career direction, the need to be in the office and business travel has prohibited the right environment for Zoey and Rico to thrive.

Zoey and Rico need to remain together for their next forever home to help with the transition and keep the strong bond between each other. They are the “Ying to each other’s Yang” and to separate them would be tragic.

Zoey and Rico’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

The new home for Zoey and Rico needs to be one where there is plenty of time with the dogs. Ideally the family, person or couple has a calm demeanor and enjoys a super-playful breed of dog.

Zoey and Rico are excellent car travel dogs, so a retired couple who loves to RV across the country will find these two great companions for long road trips! Zoey and Rico have traversed East, West, and South in an SUV.

Havanese dogs are considered to be non-shedding and hypoallergenic, so a good option for dog lovers with allergies.

Zoey and Rico’s new owners will need to know that the Havanese dog breed does communicate (a.k.a. bark) at things like squirrels, mail carriers, or dogs walking by because they are “protective” of their turf. They are not overly vocal, but not exactly a quiet breed like some other small dogs.

My preference is for a family who has experienced, (or at least learned about) the Havanese dog breed and has a strong desire to add this breed to their life.

There will be no consideration for splitting up Zoey and Rico, so the new owners must be willing to take them both.

There’s laid-back, and then there is “laid-back, zoey and rico style”! They are the cutest, funniest little canine comedians!
