Meet Scooter – Border Collie German Shepherd Mix Dog For Adoption in Chestermere AB

Looking for a dog for adoption in Chestermere, Calgary and area? Scooter is an incredibly intelligent 1 year old Border Collie Shepherd mix dog. He’s a very cute dog with so much love to offer the right owners.

Scooters early life and past are a bit of a mystery. He had some very obvious behaviours that would point to having been abused terribly from wherever he was rescued. His owners have detailed this below. They have worked with him through professional training and behaviour modification, and he has definitely come out of his shell.

Despite his tragic past, Scooter is a puppy that is filled with joy. He can be a whirling dervish – with so much energy to burn off, and he also needs plenty of mental stimulation. Scooter has grown to be a large strong puppy – much larger than his owners had expected.

They love Scooter very much, but being older, giving him the exercise he needs is difficult. They are hoping to find the right fit for him, with owners who will be able to work on his issues, understanding that he is still a puppy and will become more sensible as he matures mentally.

Scooter’s ideal home will be on an acreage, farm or ranch where he can practice his herding skills, but he will also do well with owners who have a large, securely fenced yard and lots of time and energy to devote to him.

If you have room in your heart and home for this very cute Border Collie German Shepherd mix dog, please offer Scooter his forever home today.

There is a $300.00 adoption processing fee. All supplies and veterinary records will be included.

Cute Scooter Story:

There are so many funny and cute stories that I can’t pinpoint one to tell. The thing that stands out most is when we brought him home at two months old and how he had no confidence and was afraid of everything.

Whenever we would take him in the car he would just shake with fear and when we would take him out he would just go limp and play dead. There was one incident that just almost ripped my heart out is when we had them out for a walk and we went to move the recycle bin over and he just buried himself down into the ground screeching in fear.

We will never know what really happened to him and what conditions he was rescued from but we knew he would never have to go through such a tragedy again.

After many challenging times being bitten daily, challenged aggressively, fearing what he would do next I almost gave up. It would be like a switch would go off in his head as he would go from laying down and sleeping to full out aggression in a matter of seconds.

With  lots of love , puppy behaviour classes, trying every strategy or tools to help him focus and feel calm, and setting boundaries to establishing who was boss he has grown to be confident and trusting of humans again.

Why is Scooter Being Rehomed?

This is not a decision that is coming easy for us as we love him very much and our intention was never to give up on him, and provide a forever home.

When we adopted him we were sure he was a Labrador mix and then he would only grow to about medium size. As he began to grow bigger and bigger and get heavier, stronger and had more energy than we could handle, we needed to explore more about his genetics as everybody thought he may have Great Dane in him.

We had a DNA test done and as it turns out there is no Lab in him at all. It turns out he is mainly Border Collie/German Shepard, has some Bull Terrier and Keeshond.

It now makes sense as to his size , personality characteristics , behaviours and his extreme energy.
Being that my husband and I are not physically able or healthy enough to handle his strength, size or energy . We are unable to give him the quality of life he deserves.

Scooter needs an energetic home where he can have lots of space, attention and tasks that will let him grow and develop into the amazingly intelligent dog that he is.

After conversations with our vet, she also feels now would be the time to rehome him and his behaviours can be worked on by someone who has knowledge or experience with large energetic dogs.

Scooter’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

He needs an energetic home where he can have lots of love, space, attention and tasks that will let him grow and develop into the amazingly intelligent dog that he is.
