Nico is playful, fun, calm, cuddly. He gets along incredibly well with all size breeds. Nico is treat motivated and is a fantastic dog to have around children and other animals. He loves sleeping and cuddling on beds and couches if you let him however we have since discouraged this since having a new baby.
Nico has a few little quirks that will need some positive reinforcement to nip in the bud. Yes, No He can be anxious when being scolded. He can’t be left alone when food is laying around. He has difficulty using the washroom in the winter time. He will mark when un neutered male dogs are around. Will steal food from children and lick peoples mouths that he knows will allow him to.
Nico’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
he loves toys you can put treats inside of. eats all meats, sometimes carrots, he loves pumpkin mixed into his food. he enjoys making friends with other dogs of all sizes. His favourite toys are the squeaky ones and small teddy bear looking toys. He will bark at other dogs but is eager to make friends!
Cute Nico Story:
My kids can put him in a stroller and he will fall asleep in it while being pushed around! They play babies with him.
Why is Nico Being Rehomed?
Our family is growing and we are expecting our 4th child in January. Between extracurricular activities, caring for our children and not being able to dedicate the time, love and attention to Nico we have noticed him becoming more rebellious. We no longer have the time to properly retrain him. He will try to get on countertops and kitchen tables to eat food and drink our waters, he will pee on our babies blankets and mark the house when other male dogs are around. We are unable to afford to hire a dog walker and behaviour specialist at this time. I have a 10 month old baby and another baby coming in January.
Nico’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
Nico needs a family with children or parents who can snuggle him, love him and have the time to spend with him.
Nico was an average dog when we got him from his previous family. His previous family had multiple dogs and a cat and we believe he was treated as the “runt”. He was always last to eat, scrounging for food, he was free to roam and use the washroom wherever he wanted on the property. He often felt he was welcome to anything. since taking over his care we trained Nico to stay off furniture since having our youngest child unless invited.
He is not an aggressive chihuahua by any means. When we first got him he had no sense of boundaries and would lick faces, mouths and hands as he pleased. We have since trained him not to but will do it with strangers and small children with sticky hands. I don’t have the time or awareness to appropriately and positively correct this behaviour. We believe he is not up to date with his vaccinations and are unsure if he ever received any. We did get him neutered when we took over his care and as a way to help him with his marking issues. This helped him immensely but has since started again when other male dogs are in our home.
