Meet Jazz, Orange Tabby Kitten For Adoption in Garland Texas, Near Dallas Fort Worth

His is a rags to riches story. Jazz had the great fortune of appearing one day on his owner’s doorstep – a skinny, bedraggled little creature. She took him in and helped him grow up to become the amazing little guy he is today.

Jazz’s owner would love to keep him forever, but she has two older cats that do not appreciate his Ninja ambush skills and extreme “joie de vivre”. He is smart, cute, funny, playful and very active, particularly at night. He would be best suited for a home with some kids who are looking for a very special little cat for a playmate.

No health issues. When he arrived in our yard, starving (his ribs were sticking out) and absolutely as wild as he could be.

We fed him and gradually he got to where he would come into our house and eventually we got to where we could pet him and them hold him—and now he sleeps with us.

He had scads of flees also needed to be neutered. When he finally got to where I could put him in a carrier, I took him to our vet and had him tested first and foremost for Feline Leukemia and for Feline FIV. He did not have either.

So then we proceeded to have him neutered and have all of his vaccinations plus worm treatment (he had tested to have flat worms) and also he had a flea treatment that is supposed to last 3 months.

We have all of his records from the vet’s office. He is healthly, full of energy, and has a beautiful coat of fur!

Behavior Issues: No. He is a typical energetic, playful and confident little guy.
Gets along with: Cats, Adults, Respectful Children, Cat Friendly Dogs
Pet is: Neutered, Microchipped, Fully vaccinated, Crate Trained, Litter Trained
Food: We feed him both dry and wet food. For dry food he eats primarily BEYOND (no grain, has chicken and egg) by Purina. I sometimes mix in with that Blue Wilderness Kitten dry cereal.

For wet food, he eats several things: Friskies Turkey and Giblets Dinner, Fancy Feast Ocean Whitefish & Tuna Feast –Classic Pate) Fancy Feast Tender Beef Feasst –Classic Pate); Royal Canin–Kitten; Royal Canin Intense Beauty; Royal Canin Adult Instinctive; sometimes a jar of Gerber’s Baby Food, Level 2 Ham flavor.

Jazz’s Personality

Jazz came to us as a starved little stray kitten when he was about (and I am guessing) six-seven months old. He was feral then. He has become a sweet, loving kitten who loves to be around the big kitties and loves to be in the same room with my husband and me.

He is SMART! I noticed that he had been watching our big kitties go in and out of the pet door in our bed room; so one day, I raised the flap to the pet door and let him walk through it. The next thing that I knew, he was trying to use the pet door. After a few tries, he had mastered as to where to put his little head on the door and push.

With both big kitties, there are times when he will groom them (lick them) and they in turn will groom him. He loves to play, especially aggravating the big kitties until they run away from him and then he LOVES to chase them—they are not too thrilled about that.

He is little (about 5-6 pounds) compared to our big cats (14-16 lbs.) and he likes to run and jump on their shoulders. He also tries to “bulldog” them by reaching up and putting one of his arms around their necks and trying to pull them down, which he thinks is great fun but the big cats aren’t too thrilled about this “rough house” playing.

Jazz is a sweet, loving, high energy kitten with whom we have fallen in love, but he is driving our big kitties crazy! **I just looked at the next question and he HATES being put into a carrier, but once in the carrier, he does settle down nicely.

I honestly think that Jazz’s “bullying” is probably play aggression because he is a young, energetic kitten that is 8-9 months old (as best as we can figure/guess his age).

Our two older kitties are big, fat, lazy, and are used to a very quite and sedate life—and that is not likely to change.

Jazz LOVES being with our kitties, but they are no match for his level of energy. He loves being around my husband and me.

I don’t know about if he will like being around a lot of other people. My guess is that he probably would if he was introduced to them gradually.

He seems to be very social. He is truly a delightful little cat and, in my opinion, would probably get along with another kitty his age and energy level.

Jazz is used to having my husband and/or me with him all day most of the days. He likes having someone in the house.

Jazz is an indoor AND an outdoor kitty. He loves going out in the yard and playing—chasing the butterflies and other flying insects, hiding among the flower pots on the patio, catching geckos, sunning himself in the sunshine, etc.

He is really good about coming in when I call him. I would so hope that he could find a home that would allow him to play outside some. I would also fervently hope that he could find a home that would not declaw him.

He knows how to use scratching posts but he sometimes would scratch on the corners of the furniture. That problem was solved by putting the double sided tape on the furniture.

Why is Jazz Being Rehomed?

We have two big kitties that are quite and sedate and calm. Jazz wants to run and jump on them, play with their tails, chase them around the house and yard, eat out of the same food bowl as they do, also pesters the daylights out of them when they sleep in their favorite places, to the point that they feel the need to go find another place and let him have their place (particularly on the bed).

He aggravates them to the point that, particularly one of my big kitties, doesn’t want to come into the house to sleep at night and thus stays out all night out in the cold. This particular big kitty is just about a nervous wreck and has lost a pound of weight.

When Jack is eating and Jazz comes into the room, Jack stops eating and goes out the pet door to the outside to get away from Jazz. Jack will NOT cuff Jazz on the head like a mama cat would do; instead he runs away and Jazz LOVES that and chases him.

We really thought that we could have this kitten in our house and make it work with our big kitties, but after trying for about ten weeks, it is NOT working. Our big kitties are nervous and jumpy and stay away from our house as much as possible. My heart is breaking! We have to do something and rehoming seems like the only solution.
