Meet Buttercup, Yellow Lab Whippet Mix Dog For Adoption in Edmonton AB

Looking for a very pretty and sweet Yellow Lab mix dog for adoption in Edmonton? Buttercup is a very lovable 4-year-old mix of Yellow Labrador Retriever and Whippet looking for her forever home in Edmonton and area. This sweet girl has been spayed, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. She is house-broken, crate trained and leash trained. We refer to her as a “ready to love” dog – just adopt and enjoy!

Buttercup needs a special type of home where all of her needs can be met. She comes from a horrific situation, and although she has been rehabilitated and given lots of love, she still has some issues stemming back to her early life. Buttercup was a stray dog, living on the streets in Tijuana, Mexico. She had obviously been terribly abused, and was shy and skittish when her owner rescued her.

Recently, her owner had to move home to Edmonton to care for her ailing mother and look after her much younger brother. With all she has to do in caring for family members, she has little time to spend with Buttercup. As a result, Buttercup has developed some behaviors which are part of having separation anxiety.

This is a dog that needs her human “pack” with her constantly to feel safe and happy.  When left alone, remnants of past behaviors creep in. She really needs someone who will be with her most of the time. She is fine in her crate while you go grocery shopping, to a doctor appointment, or an occasional night out, but not every day all day.

If you have the ability to offer her a home where one of her humans is almost always with her, you will be rewarded with an adorable, funny, playful and very devoted and sweet dog that will give you so much love, joy, laughter and companionship. Adopt this beautiful little soul today!

Buttercup’s Personality

She’s pretty easy going, likes to be with her people. My son has a pit mix and they get along pretty well for the most part. They like to play both inside and outside. She definitely has a very silly side, has her own little dance, loves to do zoomies, and gets very excited to go outside and for car rides. (she does get car sick, even though she loves car rides..)

She doesn’t like loud noises (I’m sure she heard her fair share of gunshots in Tijuana) such as thunder, or loud bangs. She walks easily with me on a harness (she can wiggle out of her collar, although she has never run away, she just thinks it’s a game) and she doesn’t like to be far away from me or her safe person, such as my son. She does normally sleep at the end of my bed, but she is also comfortable on a dog bed. She is really very sweet, she has had a very difficult start to her short little life.

Why is Buttercup Being Rehomed?

I rescued my sweet dog in 2018 when I lived in Los Angeles. She was living on the streets in Tijuana. She was very badly abused and very skittish and timid, and I had time to work with her. She has made a lot of progress and has a very fun, playful, and silly side. However, I moved back to Edmonton just over a year ago to help my mom out, whose health is declining.

Since then, I have been helping my mom, taken over guardianship for my brother and helping him, raising a teenager as a single parent, and working. Sadly, Buttercup is regressing and I do not have the time she needs from me. She needs time and love from someone who has it and can continue to work with her. I do love her so much, and it’s heartbreaking, I want what is best for her, and right now, I can’t give her what she needs. My mom is a full-time job, and her health is declining steadily.
